IN FORCE | 2030 TARGETS

RED III

The Renewable Energy Directive sets binding renewable-fuel targets across transport, with explicit recognition of bioLNG and renewable gases as compliance pathways. By 2030, Member States must achieve either 29% renewable energy in transport or a 14.5% reduction in transport GHG intensity. 

IMPACT FOR OEMs
While RED III does not regulate OEMs directly it strengthens BioLNG supply and demand, improving the commercial market case for HPDI™ powered vehicles. 
2025–2040 | TIGHTENING TARGETS

EU HDV CO₂ Standards

EU manufacturer-average CO₂ targets require reductions of 15% in 2025–2029, 45% from 2030, 65% from 2035 and 90% from 2040 across covered groups, relative to 2019. VECTO-certified vehicle CO₂ values determine compliance, with financial penalties applied when manufacturers exceed their targets.

HPDI™ can lower certified vehicle CO₂ versus comparable diesel trucks, supporting manufacturer-average compliance and directly reducing financial exposure to excess-emissions penalties today.
2028–2029 | PHASING IN

Euro 7

Euro 7 establishes type-approval requirements for exhaust pollutants, including NOₓ, particulates, methane and N₂O, together with tighter provisions for real-world emissions, onboard monitoring and emissions durability. It applies to new heavy-duty vehicle types from May 2028 and all new heavy-duty vehicles from May 2029.

IMPACT FOR OEMs
HPDI™ development can retain compression ignition while addressing Euro 7 through coordinated combustion, controls and aftertreatment engineering. Its established engine architecture can limit program disruption, although each OEM application requires complete validation and certification.
